there is a Voice inside your head
the Voice tells you things about the future, and the past
things about yourself, and about other people
sometimes good things, sometimes bad things
and sometimes very, very bad things
some people think you're losing your mind
but the Voice says you're not losing
the Voice says you're gaining
Welcome to Vox
Vox is a role-playing game from æthereal FORGE. It features rules-light, character and story-driven gameplay that allows characters to develop not only attributes, but personalities and Selves, as they seek to unlock the mystery of their own existence. Vox introduces a novel "Voice Mechanic" which allows each player to control not only their own Persona, but the "Voice" of another player.
Setting
Vox features a "flipbook" design that separates player material from GM and setting info. Four setting seeds are included in the book:
- Facility, distant future sci-fi horror
- Oversight, modern-day political conspiracy
- Currents, 1920s Cthulhoid mad science
- Reckoning, alt-Victorian historical mystery
Each setting can be used independently of the others, or woven together into a rich and surreal tapestry.
System
Vox uses the PDQ2 game engine, and is a member of the PDQ Family of books that includes critically-acclaimed RPGs such as Ninja Burger 2nd Edition, Dead Inside, The Zorcerer of Zo, and Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies. The PDQ2 system has been designed for evocative simplicity, speed, and flexibility in play. It was designed by Chad Underkoffler of Atomic Sock Monkey Press with additional writing by Michael Fiegel.
Major differences between PDQ and PDQ2 (as well as PDQ#, used in S7S) are discussed in this RPG.net post.
