View Full Version : My competition revealed!
OK, so the Comicon website has revealed the nominees for the 2005 Eisner Awards. (http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/pulse.cgi?http%3A//www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi%3Fubb%3Dget_topic%26f%3D36%26t%3D003663) Scroll down to see me, I'm in the "Best Digital Comic" -category. I got picked along with 5 other guys.
Speaking of which! Here's my compeditors for the prize (text cut and pasted from above forum article)!
BEST DIGITAL COMIC
Athena Voltaire, by Steve Bryant www.athenavoltaire.com
Bento & Starchky, by zer0 (Peter Branting) http://www.noapologiespress.com/zer0comics/bento.htm
Copper, by Kazu www.boltcity.com/copper_home.htm
Jonny Crossbones, by Les McClaine www.evilspacerobot.com/comics/jonnycrossbones/index.htm
Mom's Cancer, by Brian Fies www.momscancer.com/eisner.htm
ojingogo, by matt forsythe www.comingupforair.net/comics/ojingogo.html
Damn, looks like the competition is pretty intense! Whew! But, man, just getting picked in the first place makes me feel proud! 'Specially since I haven't even drawn B&S for even six months yet, while some of these guys have been drawing their comics for years on end! Guess I should keep on doing B&S, huh? Seems like a winning formula if it gets nominated for an Eisner after not even six months..! :D

Definitely. More comics, please!
Also, you should do up a special graphic thing to announce your nomination on the main page, leading to your index page, where you expand on the details. And create a link back to the Eisner Awards from the index, too.
Sweet, man, sweet!
Which main page is that you mean? The NA!P main page or the Comix by zer0 main page? Hey, speaking of which; do you think you could add it to the blog? And you might also wanna squeeze my previous B&S updates in there, if you have the time/patience.

Nah, I mean the main NA!P page. As well as your main page. Everywhere and everywhere.
I haven't been able to get Blogger to work right from work or home. Something's off in eLand.
Where do you think I could add it? I might be able to exchange the "donate" button for it. And make it flash. Or something.
Any ideas?

Do whatcha need to do! Brag!
Consider yourself Queen for a Day!
Hell, you should send press releases to the Swedish media. Maybe they will care.
Not hardly. (http://www.noapologiespress.com/zer0comics/aboutme.htm) Haven't you ever read my page on what kinda "comics" sell best in Sweden? ;)
Hmm, I'll think about the main page! Meanwhile, I'll update my B&S page, as well as the main Comics by zer0-page!
Wheeeeee! :)
Say, why don't you send out press releases to the Swedish media? They should listen to you - you're American after all! And a webmaster! RESPECT!! :p
I'll write it in the main announcement box on the front page! Thank Dog I included that in the new page design, huh? I toldja it'd come in useful!
OK, There we go! Everything's all set!

You received death threats zero? Over that?
Don't people have someone else to pester? like pop idols or infamous politicians?
The funny part was how these death threats were spelled out. Imagine some pasty-ass suburban white guy writing "yo mothafucka I's gonna pop a cap in yo ass fa sho" in Swedish! Ha ha ha ha ha! :D

HAHAHA... like they are going to do it.. I'm very interested to see some of your hate mail and your reply, posted on your site, or something..
Seems that there's good competition for you Zero! it is going to be a very hard.. but you'll take it. OFF COURSE YOU'LL WILL!
Damn, it's been a few months since I last recieved any hatemail for the rap comic, so my email program has long since thrown those out. I've also deleted a large amount of them myself, mainly because nearly all of them said the same thing. Mostly this was "din jävla fitta, jag ska snitta dig din jävel" ("You fucking cunt, I'm gonna cut you you fucker"). And, no, I don't think the person writing is ever going to come through on his threats. I don't know how I know that. Maybe I can see into the future, or something! Or maybe its just because they're 14 year old kids, threatening random people on the Internet. Yeah, that could be it.
One of the funniest ones I ever recieved was from some Swedish kid who was really pissed at me for "dissin'" Swedish rap, and who wrote that - since I claim there are no ghettos in Sweden - that I should see the place where he lived. He claimed it was really hard-core and tough. Unfortunately, he left his real name in the email. I googled it and looked it up using Eniro (http://www.eniro.se/) and found out where he really lived. Turns out it was with his mother in what I seem to recall as being Täby. I could be mistaken regarding the city, though, but I think it was Täby. So much for the hard-core ghetto image. Gangsta.
Mostly, though, the emails I've recieved over the rap comic has just been verbal abuse like "you stupid ass fucker you don't know what the fuck you're talking about you fuck your mother go fuck your own ass ass fucker", all written without any punctuation, etc. I recieved most of these emails shortly after publishing the rap comic, but they still continued to trickle in throughout 2004. It was, on average, one every week. And mostly it was something along the "i KILL YOU!" -lines. After a while, I actually started throwing a lot of them away since they just said the same thing.
I DID actually think about making some kinda page with fallout from the rap article at one point, but then I decided agaist it. People couldn't be that interested, I figured. And besides, that whole bit involving posting your hatemail on the Internet (http://maddox.xmission.com/hatemail.cgi?p=1) has been done to death by now, y'know? Ok ok ok.. I see I see..
HAHAHAHHAHA.. Täby is a real ghetto, oh yeah! If Täby is a "real ghetto", and very rough and dangerous, then where I live must be like midseventies Soweto or todays Sierra Leone.
And Västerås, where I live, must be like Compton, or something. It's hard to understand how some people can be so deluded and still continue to function in a normal society. Makes you think.
Of course, people like goths - who run around thinking that they're seriously witches and vampires - are even more fucked in the head when it comes to being deluded.

Haha! I don't think they can... just look at all "reclaimers" and all "looptroop"-wannabes. (poor you, living in Västerås for that very reason). Small time ligists and shoplifters who do nothing good with their lifes. they are such losers.
There's lots of "Reclaim The Street" -people living in Västerås? Damn, I didn't know that. Then again, I don't get out much. Nearly all the people I'm friends with live on another continent or something (like with the NA!P guys), so I don't know all that many people here. Most people in Västerås (and Sweden) are so alike, small-minded and boring that I just don't find getting to know them worth my time. Sad but true.
There's Sweden all over for you - so full of "medelsvensons" that a guy is forced to seek out friends on the other side of the globe if he wants interesting people to talk to. Sad. Of course, there seems to be at least some interesting Swedes (like you) out there as well! Just wish more of them would discover this forum. That'd be fun!

Haha.. I don't know really, cause I have never been to Västerås.
I've almost only been to and around Skåne (where I live), and Stockholm in Sweden (a few places in småland, blekinge, bohuslän and such too). But the intention I get from meeting Västerås-kids is that they are ligist, hiphopbums and reclaimers + I've just heard the rumuors that they are hahah. So I'm being very prejudice here man-
Maybe It's like anywhere else.
I think there's many very interesting people in Sweden!!!
You'll have to come to Skåne man!
(a guy in my class grounds his snusprilla into his daily cup-o-automatic-coffee-machine-coffee because he thinks it tastes good. How interesting isn't that? )

Man, I'm so lame. I've never seen Skåne or Bohuslän, even though I'd like to. I'd also love to see the northern parts of Norrland at some point, though, with the midnight sun and everything. I've never seen the fjälls, either. Or even visited the northern parts of my own country. Pretty lame, huh? ;)
So you live in Skåne? Cool, cool. Do you have that weird accent where you pronounce "i" as "au"? I think that's one of the coolest parts of Skåne!
Here's my compeditors
Huh? What is a "compeditor"? Is that some kind of trailer trash ghetto speak?
People who use the term "LOL" can always be trusted as experts in the field of grammar. See also: people who spell the word "buy" as "by".
PS: English is not my native tounge. But it is yours! ;)

You gave me crap for spelling, I gave you crap for spelling, if you can't take it, don't dish it.
Perhaps you suffer from low reading comprehension along with being a shitty painter. What I meant above was that *I* sometime misspell certain words because I'm a foreigner, but that I stil manage to spell better than a native English speaker who thinks "buy" is spelled without the "U".
