View Full Version : New comic!
Check it out here (http://www.noapologiespress.com/zer0comics/bunker1.htm)! It's Hitlerriffic! And it stars two characters I hope and plan to make regulars in my comics from now on.
I've also updated the front page to include the new link to Mongo's web page. Brent, Ken, Jeff: Make sure you all download the file "kingmongo.gif" from the front page directory and install it into the same directory in your own computers. And don't forget to download the latest version of the front page, as well. OK? OK!
Boy, I sure would like to read it. Stoopid computer! Let me access my own site!
Man, is that thing still giving you trouble? What about the other features? Can you view stuff like DwarfLover, TNN and Future Retard?
When I can't access the site, I can't access any of the site. Except for the quicklinks. WHY BABY JESUS WHY!?
But apparently solar flares are flaring and moon bunnies are bunnying so I was able to read the comic. Very nice looking. VERY, very nice looking. Insanely nice looking.
Hey-hey! Thanks! I do feel my skills have evolved a little since I started drawing for NA!P. Or a lot.
You should try downloading a new browser and seeing if that works for you. Try Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/). Everybody loves Firefox. Old women, little children, they all looooooooooooove Firefox! Or was it slot machines? Damn Grim Fandango references! Anyway, it might be worth checking out!

Yeah, seriously. It really looks polished. Nice work, zer0. Incidentally, thanks for the wallpaper ;)
Dude, (Jeff) did you ever do any of that shit I suggested with your HOSTS file? What OS are you using? And...um...you know, depending on what OS you're using, I'm fairly well-convinced you have some software that's blocking it.
Get me your OS info, I'm sure I can fix this problem, dude. There isn't a problem yet I've encountered on a consumer desktop that i can't fix.
See, the problem is, I keep touching the screen but nothing is happening. And then my remote control isn't fast forwarding my computer web page searches. Even though it's universal. Stoopid remote.
You do that too?! So do I! And I can't get the disk out of the drive either, so I buttered it up and tried to use a pair of pliers, but my finger got stuck. Or something.
Oh yeah, the desktop background. Glad you liked it, Mongo. I made a few minor alterations to it and uploaded it to the server. It's now available here (http://www.noapologiespress.com/zer0comics/discobackground.gif), if anyone wants it. Knock yourselves out!

I'm semi-baffled by your quandry. If you were up to it, we could try setting up remote control on your computer so I could drop into it and take a look :)
You know you want me inside your computer. Ungh. Get in them guts.

I'm still betting it's his ISP hiccuping.
Anyway -- zer0, this is your best shit yet. Mother fucker. Keep it up, rockstar.

Naw, can't be--remember, you could get to those sites when he couldn't even tho u were on the same 'net connection, jah?
And re: zer0--meeting zer0 online is one of the reasons that I have a (probably totally misplaced) faith in the potential of meeting people online, because he's actually intelligent, interesting, and talented.
Signal to noise ratio is fucked in the online world, however. So far, I've met zer0...and maybe 500,000 complete cockmongers.
And, and. Looks like I prob. have a date Friday night--I took your advice, Brent, and am going the more interesting way for me and her...me and her...that's right, isn't it?
Yes, "me and her" is correct. Yay! I was useful!

And I can't remember us doing a lot of testing between the two machines, either, though I totally could be wrong since I was sick and tired much of the time.

Huh. I guess it could be some kind of ISP issue, particularly if somebody from a Dreamhost account was, say, sending a lot of spam maybe, or running an illegal site or something. I dunno. Might run it by Dreamhost as well as the ISP, see if there are known DNS resolution issues with the one or the other?

Ha ha! Hey thanks, I sure will! Rock 'n roll! ;)

Well, thank'ee sir! Hey, we'll have to all get together and party sometime. It'd be pretty cool to hang out with all y'all guys in real life. Fa sho!
Well, I don't have any problems sending mail. And the mail thing is squirrel mail which really has no relation to the dreamhost pages I can't access. And the other computers in this house can access those sites. My computer in particular seems to be the only one fucked up.
Also, why would the quicklinks.htm page still load along the bottom of the error message? Why is that different? I think it's a clue, Scooby!

Hey, I may have found an important clue (zer0, we'll need you to check it out).
At the bottom of the front page, above the quicklinks frame, there's a link to a broken image, I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like. However, this is the link address:
http://t.extreme-dm.com/?login=jeffity
I'm guessing that somehow Jeff's loging to the dreamhost management console got in there? It may even be possible that Jeff's account has been locked out?
some other thoughts....
Since you're using IE, have you checked your Security tab (in Internet Options) to ensure that any of the problem sites haven't mistakenly put into a restricted zone, or that your security settings aren't unusually high for soem reason?
Also:
does it make any difference if you try to browse to:
http://www.noapologiespress.com
or
http://noapologiespress.com
?
That'd be the link to the hit counter. "Extreme Tracking", to be more precise. And the link's not broken - at least; not to me it isn't. I see it just fine. Any of y'all see a broken image? Except Mongo, I mean?
Also, the counter seems to function just fine and dandy. When I click on it, it shows today's date and everything, meaning that it's working and counting just fine.
I've always found it slightly odd that anyone can just click on that link and go directly to the Extreme Tracking account, but maybe Jeffity set it up that way? I dunno! Any guesses?

Oh yeah, now I remember! The link actually came set up that way! When I made the new home page, all I needed to do was insert it. So I don't think that can be it. I don't really think this link has anything at all to do with dreamhost, since it links back to Extreme Tracking, which sounds like a company which has nothing to do with our host? I guess? I took every precaution so that the link would work, too. I specifically set it up so that it would operate inside the parameters used for the front page (tables+frames).
I'm betting more on what Mongo said about Jeff's settings. It seems utterly bizzare that no one else here has any problems viewing the NA!P or Kingmongo.com sites. Also, it seems utterly bizarre to me that Jeff's computer, even though he has more than one in his house, is the only one acting up. Bizarre, I say. I mean; no one else here has any problems in displaying the front page or Mongo's site, right?
EDIT: Also! I'm currently using a computer at my school, and it displays the "missing" link you claim you can't see just fine, Mongo. Hmm, I don't know why you don't see it..? Have you tried hitting "update"? Also, I recall viewing the NA!P page on another school computer (other than the one I'm using right now) and they (the front page and the link to Extreme Tracking) both looked perfect on that one, too. Jeff seems to be the only guy having trouble with the web page! How very, very odd.

I see the Extreme Tracking thing fine. It's third party, separate from DH.

OH, fine.
How about this, then. I guess it's got to be something to do with cached info. Jeff must have, in his cache, some faulty login info (or something).
If he's already purged his temporary internet files, then he may have a shit cookie, or shit information in his password list pwl.
Quick way to test, without having to purge info (and subsequently recreate it) would be (can't remember, Jeff, you said Windows XP, right?) is to create a brand new user, login as that user, and see if you can get online.
If so, then it's IE settings in your current user profile. Then we can talk about flushing your IE settings. Sounds tight, huh?
I'd guess it's something in my user profile. I've tried all of that other crap.
And I didn't think the hit counter was actually working on the front page anymore. It's supposed to be outside any tables. Last I checked, it wasn't working. It linked to the extreme tracking place but it wasn't registering any hits. That was months ago though.
So, how do I flush my user profile crap without having to make a new user profile?

Okay (you have XP, right?), do this (depends on how you login)
1.a (if when u turn on computer, you automatically go to desktop w/out having to enter username & password): go to desktop, then select Log Off from Start menu; when you are given a login prompt, login as administrator (should be a blank password, unless you set it to something else)
1.b. (if when u turn on computer, u get a Welcome screen and click on your user name) Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL twice, you'll get a login prompt, login as administrator
1.c. (you get a login prompt) login as administrator
2. u are logged in as administrator; browse to C:\Documents and Settings and find the folder that is the same as your *regular* user name. Change that folder's name so that it contains "old" in front of it (example: from "king" to "old king")
3. log off
4. login as your *regular* user
5. you will have a completely clean profile--you won't presently have any of your shortcuts, desktop icons, outlook won't work, etc. relax, we're just testing here. Try IE.
6. If it works, then yeah, your IE profile is fucked.
So, now in your C:\Documents and Settings\old <your user name> folder is all of your shit. The long way to do this (it's too complicated to try and explain the easier way, I'm afraid) is to log out again, log back in as administrator, and then copy the basics from your old user profile to the new one, like:
Favorites
Desktop
Start Menu
There's other stuff you'll probably need, but you don't want to just copy all those application folders over because somewhere in there is whatever flawed shit caused the problems in the first place.
Oh, this is all assuming that the new profile worked to begin with.
You'll definitely lose all your cookies and shit. Hope you can remember all your website passwords ;)

Yeah, it works 100% fine after I corrected it. Click on it and see, Jeff. After you get your browser accepting the page, that is. I checked it from the school computer, and it works from there too. It's a bit odd that anyone on the planet can access our Extreme Tracking account and openly see our stats, but that's the way we are here at NA!P. Friendly, open and willing to share with each other. Speaking of which, I had sex with your girlfriend last night, Brent. That's OK, right?

Oh, and yeah, who cares what are stats say? I don't mind in the least. I hate it when people throw out stat numbers of their sites, but never show 'em.
Although, Extreme Tracking doesn't get all our traffic, either....
What "are" stats say? Don't you mean "our" stats? ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE REALLY AMERICAN??? ARE YOU CERTAIN???
Brent
01-12-2005, 07:00 PM
Huh. Interesting. I wonder how often I do that with "are/our."
I don't think I've seen it happen more than twice. But there was that one time where you substituted "know" for "no". Heh heh, that was amusing. :)
My homonym disease has spread! (insert homo comment here . . . )

Who, me or him? And what eyes? I'm legally blind - that's why I'm wearing sunglasses all the time, dude! All that fancy shit with the comics is just really lucky guesswork.
